June 10, 2009Housing Works video posted on SPIN.comSPIN.com has uploaded video showing some songs/readings from the Housing Works event! June 3, 2009Amanda and Neil Gaiman at Housing WorksAmanda and Neil were at Housing Works in NYC last night, and the store was packed! Amanda played Astronaut, Perfect Fit, Dear Old House That I Grew Up In, I Google You, and Dark Come Soon (a Tegan and Sara cover). Neil read the WKAP intro., a new (as yet unpublished) short story (about a very creepy living statue), and a few of the Who Killed Amanda Palmer stories And, speaking of the Big Book of Who Killed Amanda Palmer, Neil said that, as of last night, there were only 2 copies of the book in North America, and they auctioned off one -- the one Neil read from during this event -- for $1300. This money went directly to Housing Works, a terrific cause! Amanda and Neil personally did the auctioneering duties. The lucky winner was also promised an unpublished photo of Amanda directly from Kyle Cassidy (who was also in attendance), and autographs from Neil and Amanda, of course. Before the auction, Amanda and Neil took pre-submitted questions from the audience and asked them of each other. Amanda saved the best for last. She read a fan's question for Neil -- (paraphrasing here...) "are you two dating?" Neil said yes, they had been dating for a few months! As usual Amanda and Neil were gracious enough to stay late for signings. Thanks to both for a memorable event! Oh, and the entire event was sponsored by SPIN magazine, as the second installment in their Liner Notes series. Don't miss their coverage off the event.
UPDATE: SPIN reports that the entire event raised $10,000!

April 13, 2009What's Up With Brian?"Hey!," you might ask, "What's up with Brian?" As luck would have it, The Dresden Dolls went on hiatus just as Smittener.com sprang to life, and then Amanda released WKAP and did the tour, so it's been pretty much all-Amanda all the time here, with a few exceptions. But, Brian recently posted info. on the Dresden Dolls myspace page about a TON of projects he's working on. What follows below is a poor-man's summary — please see Brian's epic post for more detail. Brian has been / is / will be . . .
Wow! UPDATE:Boston.com (4/17) has posted a short (i.e., 2-question) interview with Brian about working with WIFS.
April 1, 2009Pitchfork covers Amanda (Twice!)
Amanda to Roadrunner: Please drop me!
Pitchfork likes what Amanda is putting down this week. They've covered her relationship with Roadrunner Records today (be sure to click the little "more" link to see the interview section), and... Have you heard? "Musicals are back!" Okay, so that's usually about Mama Mia and High School Musical, and (God help us) Heathers the Musical -- but now hear this: Pitchfork just noted that she'll be working with current Lexington High School students on an original play. The play happens to incorporate Neutral Milk Hotel's classic In the Aeroplane Over the Sea.
March 20, 2009What's The Use Of Wond'rin'?Amanda's new video, What's the Use of Wond'rin? will premier at the Boston Underground Film Festival on Saturday, March 21st. But, you can watch it now on AfterEllen.com Wow! Simply put, this video is great. And... in light of recent pop music news, let's just say it's also timely. On a happier note, Amanda seems to be closing in on 1 video for every song on the album. Will we see Have to Drive and Blake Says?

March 11, 2009Amanda to join/slay a panel discussion at SXSW
Attending SXSW? Mark your calendar for AFP.
On March 19th, Amanda's gonna drop some knowledge at SXSW in a session called "Do A 360 Deal With Yourself." One look at the description of this session, and it's crystal clear why Amanda's included: "Your band is a startup and you're the CEO, charged with assembling the right team, technology and resources to run your business. Your work contains a strong direct-to-fan component..." Of course, Amanda's been a fierce self-promoter, both with the band and with her solo album. A 2007 "Hammer Conversation", with Henry Rollins no less, covered some of the same topics. It will be interesting to see how her recent label scuffles have influenced her opinions. Let's hope this session is recorded! UPDATE:

"It's still possible that these songs will be developed and put on a record later on in some different incarnation. there was a part of me that didn't want to release these for that reason...." Don't miss Amanda's track-by-track description!
February 25, 2009Who Killed Amanda Palmer book finally at the printer
Neil reads a short story about Amanda's death.
On his blog today, Neil Gaiman notes that the Who Killed Amanda Palmer book is now at the presses! (Hurrah! This is great news, as the book has been subject to misc. delays since late 2008). In that post, Neil also talks a bit about the success of Coraline and includes the video above where he entertains the crowd with a fairy tale about Amanda's demise. By the way, I have been remiss in not mentioning this excellent page that compiles quite a lot of footage of Amanda singing and Neil reading at this event at Chapters Bookstore in Dublin.
Enjoy!
February 19, 2009Amanda and the Huffington Post
Amanda Palmer re-introduces the UK to satire.
Amanda's European troubles with the Oasis single and her blog post on the same were picked up this week by The Huffington Post. Amanda writes, Now people in the UK are telling me that the song 'makes light of rape, religion and abortion.' Can I simply state: When you cannot joke about the darkness of life, that's when the darkness takes over. I could try to win points by talking about how I've been date raped (I have been, when I was 20) or how I have every right to joke about this if I want to because I've had an abortion myself (I have, when I was 17, complete with fundamentalist Christian protesters shouting at me), but I actually don't believe those experiences should lend me any credibility, any more so than I believe the director of Life is Beautiful had to have been at Auschwitz in order to direct that film. Funny how this wasn't an issue here in the States... Our MTV long ago decided it would court less controversy if they just stopped playing music videos altogether.

Let the speculation begin! Watch out for an abrupt ending as Ustream apparently started paying attention about 68 minutes in!

December 2, 2008The ReBELLYon has begun! When Roadrunner Records suggested to Amanda Palmer that she edit the "Leeds United" video to avoid shots of her belly, they probably never imagined an angry belly uprising. But, that's what they're facing at the moment. Amanda mentioned Roadrunner's suggestion in her mailing and blog, and soon after, her fans at The Shadowbox started e-mailing Roadrunner with pictures of their own bellies (sometimes with helpful suggestions about what Roadrunner could do with/to itself). Roadrunner briefly posted the following on their site, but apparently took it down quickly: "We’ve been receiving a lot of belly photos from Amanda Palmer fans recently and decided to host an Amanda Palmer “Show Your Belly Solidarity” contest!
Show us your belly for your chance to grab an Amanda Palmer Prize Pack including the newest CD!
Our favorite bellies of all shapes and sizes get the prize packs, so grab that webcam, digital camera, cell phone, pencil or chisel, and get those pics over to us!"
The ReBELLYon will not be televised, but it currently appears on TheReBELLYon.com, YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook! Amanda Palmer: "ONE MORE DISS ON THE BELLY AND THE PONY GETS IT" UPDATE: This story has now been covered by The Guardian and by Pitchfork (12/03/08)
